MiaoMix Monday #5 [Halloween]

Today is Halloween and today’s the perfect day to celebrate. I put together a mix of songs that in my opinion would be great to listen to during Halloween. None of them are actually directly related to Halloween in any way, but I think they have a very suitable vibe. The playlist this week isn’t really focused on any specific genre, but the first half of the playlist is rap and the 2nd half is a mix of dubstep, folk, and R&B music. The last song is “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” by Sufjan Stevens and if you’re at all familiar with the song, you’d think it wouldn’t fit in this playlist, but I think that it’s a perfect ending to this week’s mix.

Kid CuDi – “Maniac (feat. Cage & St. Vincent)”
Das Racist – “Sit Down, Man (feat. El-P) (Produced by Scoop Deville)”
Tyler, The Creator – “Tron Cat”
GZA/Genius – “Shadowboxin'”
The Weeknd – “Wicked Games”
Massive Attack – “Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)”
Burial – “Archangel”
Sufjan Stevens – “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.”

Bon Iver Wins Q Award, Discusses Future Collaborations

Q Magazine dished out honors yesterday for its Q Awards, in which Bon Iver received a well-deserved award for “Best New Album”. After receiving the award, Vernon discussed his recent collaborations with Kanye West and James Blake, stating that they were “awesome” and hinting that there was more to come. On his recent collaboration with Blake, Vernon stated that the two were “mutual fans”, that “it became pretty obvious” that the two should work together, and that the two would be doing “a lot in the future”. Contest: Jane’s Addiction Autographed Guitar

I don’t know how many of you are fans of alternative rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction, but we’ve teamed up with the band for a unique contest. To celebrate the release of their new album The Great Escape Artist, the band’s first in eight years, the band will give to one lucky fan a Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 24 guitar signed by Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Chris Chaney, as well as a copy of the new album (out now via Capitol Records).

Jane’s Addiction dominated the Los Angeles rock scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, becoming one of the first alt rock bands to achieve mainstream success worldwide before breaking up for the first time in 1991. Whether or not you are a fan, this is your chance to win a piece of the band’s storied history.
