If you’ve heard M83‘s new single “Midnight City”, there’s a good chance you’ve fallen in love with the song’s catchy synth production and mind-blowing sax solo. Even so, you may be in need of some new M83 to jam to, especially since the brand new double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, isn’t due for release until October 18.
To make the long wait a tiny bit easier for you, I’ve compiled a list of four “Midnight City” remixes, all different in style and vibe. Check them out below.
This list wouldn’t be complete without first featuring the original track by M83. Catchy, addictive, fun, and arguably one of the summer’s most appreciated releases.
Alcala slows things down a bit with his remix, placing extra emphasis on the main synth riff. Chill and not too far away from the original in terms of style.
German producer Christian Strobe reworks the song a bit more, giving it a shoegazey, ’80s-influenced feel. Strobe’s remix is a bit more synth-heavy than the rest.
Sped up, but keeping things light and relaxed, Eôn‘s remix is simple and quite relaxing. If you want to tone things down a notch, check out this one.
Cameron Kayfish gives the song an eccentric reworking, creating a completely new beat to accompany the synth. Clean and more bass-heavy, this remix feels more energetic and lively.
Personally, I’d have liked to see more producers take on the original sax solo. (None of the above remixes include the sax.) Considering the utter catchiness of the original song, it’s also surprising that the song hasn’t yet been remixed to death. Perhaps people have been afraid to potentially ruin such a great song…
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming will be out October 18th via Mute Records.
