Many have speculated that Craig’s band, Dance Gavin Dance, have removed the troubled singer from their line-up once again, due to plans to embark on a US tour without him. However, the band have released a statement confirming that Craig has not been kicked out.
“As some of you have heard today, Jonny Craig will not be doing the upcoming tour with Dance Gavin Dance. Jonny is very sick right now, and needs to do what he can to get better. Being on the road is no place for someone in his position right now. He needs to focus on fixing himself. He has NOT been kicked out of Dance Gavin Dance, but we cannot tour with him in the current state he is in. We still want to continue being productive and playing music that we have so much passion for, which is why we decided to continue with the tour without Jonny. We love Jonny and we hope that Jonny can do what he can to get better, because we have done everything that we can to try to get him clean.
For this upcoming tour with A lot Like Birds, we will be joined by Kurt Travis and Matt Geise to fill in on vocals. We will be doing something that we’ve never done before, and thats preforming songs from all 4 full-lengths. For the time being, keep your eyes peeled and your ears piqued for new Secret Band music! See you all out on the road and make sure to come up and say hi to us at the merch table!”
Both Travis and Geise have previously worked with the band. Travis had been the band’s singer from 2007 to 2010, while Geise having been featured on the song “Rock Solid” off the band’s self-titled record. Secret Band is a side project started by the members of Dance Gavin Dance (excluding Jonny Craig). So far, they have released one four-track EP.
“Hola mis amigos! We hit the studio THIS MONTH to record a brand new album! Can you smell the excitement in the air?! We’ve been writing on and off for almost a whole year now, in between tours and even while on tour. We’ve traveled to different parts of the country to collaborate with friends and fellow musicians. We wrote while we were on tour in Europe. We even lived in a cabin for a few months to get away from it all and fine tune the songs. And now it begins! We’ll be announcing the producer and a bunch of other upcoming PTV plans very soon! Exciting times on the PTV front!

“So, one night I was watching the Mission Impossible Quadrilogy and enjoying a night cap when Mike from Anarbor hit me up asking if I’d be interested in playing guitar for them. My immediate response was a resounding: “hell yes sir”. My history with the band goes back to the days before Slade picked up bass duties for the band. We were introduced to each other by a mutual homie and I always admired the music created by these dudes. I happily volunteered to make an appearance during Anarbor’s set on the Take Action Tour back in 09 and I’m super mega extra stoked to be able to join them on stage again over the next couple months. Looking forward to seeing y’all at the rock concerts, <3dave”
Juwig stated that his departure was due to his desire to pursue his education and that there are no negative emotions between him or the band. You can read his statement on his departure below:
“So, some of you might have been wondering if I had fallen off the face of the world or not. About two months ago, I made the decision to leave Anarbor and go back to school full time and live a normal life. It was a very hard decision to make and wasn’t a spontaneous decision. The whole time we had been touring, I had always had a yearning to go back to school and get my degree. After the “Do America” Tour, we had the longest break at home that we’ve had since we first began touring. Over the past few months, I was reminded of how much I loved being home and living a normal life. Being away from home for 8 to 10 months out of the year is just something that doesn’t interest me anymore.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved touring and playing shows everyday with my best friends, just being gone so much and not having stability can get a little irritating. The memories I’ve made over the past 9 years of being in Anarbor will be things I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. There’s no bad blood between me or any of the guys. I still hang out with the guys all the time, and our friendship is the most important thing. I still play guitar and write songs of my own, maybe they’ll get recorded one day. Make sure to go check out the guys on the upcoming “end of the world” tour, the guys are gonna kill it! I’d like to thank everyone at Hopeless Records, Justin and everyone at The Agency Group, David McKay, Mike Green, Danny Rukasin, Brandon Goodman and everyone else at The Working Group Management. A HUGE thank you goes out to all the fans out there, you guys are the reason why the band can continue to stay on the road and making records. I’ll never forget anything about this journey, thank you all!”
Anarbor recently had their song “Useless” from their full-length The Words You Don’t Swallow featured on the Love Is Hopeless compilation by Hopeless Records.
Can you tell me how long you guys have played music for?
I (Chris) have been playing guitar ever since I was in the sixth grade. I’m nineteen right now. I started the band back in my junior year of high school.
Does being in a band at such a young age affect your career in any way?
It absolutely does, luckily were learning the rights and wrongs at a younger age rather then us being older with more burdens. Our bassist and drummer are both seventeen.
With the many pop-punk bands that currently exist in the scene, how does Vegas Is North stand out?
We are pushing our genre out a little bit more now. We’ve been in the pop-punk scene for awhile now we are expanding our horizons to see where this will take us.
You recently released your new EP I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead. What makes it different from your previously released self-titled EP?
I believe it has a huge difference. Lyrical and musically. I feel I started to learn to write better lyrics and just be a better musician all around.
What was the writing process like for the new EP?
It was me in my room just pouring my heart on to these songs.
Are there any artists that were a big influence on the music in I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead?
I was listening to a lot of earlier 2000 pop-punk bands, like New Found Glory and Blink-182 at the time. They played a huge influence on this EP.
“Parking Lot Kings” has some great lines, what inspired the lyrics on that song?
Honestly just being stuck in a point in your life where you feel like your not going anywhere. Where you just feel stuck.
You guys recently put-out a music video for “Parking Lot Kings”, is this your first music video? If so, what was the experience like?
Yes we did! Which you can watch on Youtube right now! It was awesome and we feel a lot more legit as a band. We’re moving fast, so expect to see a lot of us in the future.
We are currently working on a tour right now you can stay updated with us on our social websites.
You guys recently announced that you were releasing your single “Savior” on the 17th. What can your fans expect from the new song?
A new us.
Other than “Savior”, can we expect to hear any new material in the near future?
We have been writing non stop, so there will be tons of new music in the future! Stay tuned with us on our Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube!
