Lana Del Rey & Azealia Banks Team Up

Smims&Belle is the name of the new DJ side project of Mark Foster and Isom Innis (of Foster the People). Their first project comes in the form of a Lana Del Rey remix, with the two remixing “Blue Jeans” and enlisting the help of Azealia Banks for a new guest verse. Below, you can listen to the full extended remix. Foster and Innis have also uploaded the “original” version of their remix as well, which you can peep here.

Foster The People Live on Saturday Night Live

Just in case you’re one of the very sheltered few who haven’t yet heard Foster The People‘s infectious single, “Pumped Up Kicks”, the Los Angeles trio dropped by Saturday Night Live to perform two songs – the other of which is “Houdini”. The performance also includes a guest appearance by Kenny G in the final horn section of “Pumped Up Kicks”.

Check out the two videos below.

MiaoMix Monday #3 [Rap Remixes]

This week’s playlist is a collection of rap remixes of pop/indie songs. Sampling songs like these has become increasingly popular in the last few years and it’s resulted in some pretty creative songs. It’s always pleasant to listen to a track and recognize a familiar song that I already love, especially if the rapper does the sample justice. This week’s mix contains some chill rap and upbeat rap. Samples include “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Rolling in the Deep”. Listen to the mix below:

Neako – “The Dawn”
Josh Bonney – “Gimme the Beat (ft. Benjy Johnson)”
Chiddy Bang – “Cameras”
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – “Otherside”
OCD: Moosh & Twist – “City Kids”
Jamie xx – “Rolling in the Deep (REMIX) ft. Childish Gambino
Foster the People – “Pumped Up Kicks (DJ Reflex Remix) (feat. Kendrick Lamar)”
Olu – “I’m Ballin”

Listen: Foster The People – “Pumped Up Kicks (DJ Reflex Remix) (feat. Kendrick Lamar)”

It’s always fun when an indie jam is sampled and flipped into a beat for someone to rap over, something made popular recently by Chiddy Bang‘s talented producer Xaphoon Jones. This time, Power 106’s DJ Reflex gives Foster The People‘s summer anthem “Pumped Up Kicks” the remix treatment and enlists the help of none other than the extremely skilled Kendrick Lamar. Even though the Compton emcee sounds slightly out-of-place, his two bars are a quick and enjoyable listen over Reflex’s laid-back beat. Expect the blog world to jump all over this track, especially with Kendrick fresh off the release of his album Section.80 earlier this year.

A Year Later… Our First Birthday Playlist

It’s hard to imagine that exactly one year ago, the very first post on this site was released to the world. In the past year, we’ve certainly come a long way, growing rapidly in terms of both listeners and contributors. With our posts over the past 365 days, we hope that we’ve exposed some good music to you, sharing our personal favorites either in the form of an MP3 or simply through our writing. It’s a great feeling to know that somewhere out there, people are reading what we have to say and appreciating music that they otherwise would not have found.

So in celebration of our first birthday, it only made sense to thank you, the reader. Thank you for checking out what we have to say and allowing us to share the music we love. Over the next year, we’ll be looking to grow even more and work with even more great artists. Big things are on the horizon, so please share us with your friends and keep visiting and commenting.

Video: Foster The People – “Helena Beat”

joomplu:283Los Angeles based indie pop band Foster The People have had a pretty busy summer so far, first releasing the hit single “Pumped Up Kicks”. They have now released a music video for their newest single, “Helena Beat”, the quick-paced, psychedelic opener to Torches. The Ace Norton-directed video, which depicts an alternate reality where children with guns capture the band and wreak havoc with fire and electrical shocks. Kids, please don’t try this at home.

Check out the video after the break.
