Otenki have posted a new song, “Kinetic”, onto their Facebook page. The song is from the band’s upcoming Kinetic EP and will only be up for a day. The new EP will be available May 3rd.
Track: “Grown-Ups”
Artist: The White House Band
Release Date: November 26, 2010
Label: Cap City Records
Taking a page from Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi‘s book, The White House Band combine heavy guitar riffs with angst-filled, reflective rapping on new single “Grown-Ups”, from the band’s upcoming Stimulus Package EP. Lead man David E. Beats is honest and likable enough, rapping about painful experiences in his childhood and ultimately progressing to becoming a “grown up now.” After a short instrumental interlude reminiscent of the tracks on Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, David E. Beats returns with verse number two, sounding very similar to Rick Ross on “Devil In A New Dress”. But enough with the comparisons: where Kanye West chooses to use samples in his music (and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that!), The White House Band play every note. Be sure to give this solid track a listen.
Rating: 6/10

Heinali and Matt Finney have signed with Paradigms Recordings, who will be re-releasing Conjoined with new art and packaging in March/April. The two will then put out their fourth release. Read more for a personal message from the band posted on their Tumblr page.
“A lot has been going on behind the scenes here. You might’ve noticed that on our Bandcamp we’ve disabled downloading and we only have two tracks up for streaming. This is because we’re proud to announce that Paradigms Recordings is going to be re-releasing Conjoined with all new art and packaging in March/April. They will follow this up with our 4th album that we’re already starting to work on. We’re so excited and honored to be a part of the Paradigms family. They’ve put out some incredible releases over the years and it’s amazing that our music has found a home. Click on the link and check out their site. Buy some things while you’re at it. We’re also happy to say we’ll have physical copies now but they will be extremely limited. We’ll keep you posted on this and the recording of album #4.

Ah, 2010. What a great year it has been. (Unfortunately, I’m a poet and I don’t even know it. There I go again…) The following lists, written by our staff writers and beloved guests, serve as a mere glimpse into what we have enjoyed this past year. They are, in no way, shape or form, a complete image of what we have listened to, but hopefully, they guide you towards albums that you may have missed throughout the year. The following lists are also not a list of the “best” albums of the year, but our favorites.
So without further ado, bring on the awards and the lists!

Featured Stream: Angus & Julia Stone – “Draw Your Swords”
Staff Album of the Year:
Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Whether you believe it’s over-produced, over-excessive, over-reliant on guests or just over-the-top Kanye, there is no doubt in our minds that Kanye West, the man with his ego in a Luis Vutton bag, has released the Album of the Year with his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. From the obscure but incredibly fitting sampling in “Dark Fantasy”, Kanye’s blaring self-image in “Power”, Nicki Minaj’s biting verse in “Monster”, Chris Rock’s comedic “Yeezy Taught Me” skit in “Blame Game”, to Gil Scott-Heron’s preaching in “Who Will Survive In America”, there really isn’t anything left to be said about this album that hasn’t been said already. Kanye has not only crafted his own masterpiece but has probably created an album to be remembered for decades to come. (Pardon the melodrama.)
