Stream: Hoodie Allen – All American EP

Spring break came and went, and now I suppose I’m a little bit behind on a bunch of the new music that came out over the past week. A few days ago, former Googler-turned-rapper Hoodie Allen made his official debut with All American, an 8 song retail EP composed entirely of original production – a first for the young artist. With each release, Hoodie has been improving by leaps and bounds, and All American is clearly no exception. Give it a listen below, and if you like what you hear, support Hoodie with a purchase on iTunes.

Lil B’s Lecture at NYU

Lil B‘s recently released his a mixtape, The Basedprint 2. You can download the mixtape here, which has the first track aptly titled, “NYU”. On April 11, 2012, Lil B had his extremely hyped, legendary lecture at NYU. Two weeks ago, it was announced that Lil B would be having a lecture at NYU. In an interview with Fuse, the rapper talked about how it happened and what will the lecture be about. He said, “what I will tell you is that I specialize in the progression of humans. It’s gonna be a real progressive talk and when everybody leaves, their lives will be changed.” When he finally took his spot on the podium, he did not disappoint. Below are some highlight quotes from the lecture:

  • “Be in tune with your rare—this is a very rare thing. I’m like a robot. Hey look, tell your hand to do this.” [Raises hand]. “It’s like, man, that’s amazing! That’s amazing to me.”
  • “To say “I’m not that gorgeous” is only a reflection of the media. You are gorgeous. I’m telling you. You are what you believe you are. You are a model. You are a rapper. You are a student. You are a positive person. Don’t let these words feel like you’re different.”
  • “Every single person you meet, look at them like a golden million dollar baby.”
  • [Audience member: “What inspires you?”] “You guys. It’s you, bruh. Being here, we could be brothers now. It’s good, regardless. And everybody, speak both languages too. Listen to slang. Slang is like learning another language. Be bilingual and go learn some slang. For sheezy! Brang dang dang. If you know some slang, rep that. You feel me? You feel me?! Yeah, bruh. Use swag, yeah, dummy.”

You can listen to the entire unscripted 80-minute lecture below. Or you can check out the full transcript of the lecture here.

Watch: New Drake Music Videos for “Take Care” and “HYFR”

Drake has just released two new music videos for his album, Take Care. The first video is “Take Care”, featuring Rihanna and samples Gil Scott-Heron And Jamie xx’s collab. Yoann Lemoine (“Blue Jeans”, “Born to Die”), the director for the video, told MTV that “it’s actually the most indie video I’ve done my whole life.” As if “Blue Jeans” wasn’t indie enough. The second video is for “HYFR”, which features Lil Wayne. The music video is an amazing recreation of Drake‘s Bar Mitzvah that occurred last year. The video also includes artists such as Trey Songz, Birdman, and DJ Khaled. This video was directed by Joseph Labisi, who has directed music videos for artists such as Chris Brown, Taylor Swift and Common. Watch the two videos below.

Listen: “Mercy (feat. Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz)”

As promised after the release of Yeezy‘s new song “Theraflu” yesterday, the very first track off of the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music collaboration album has been released to the masses. At around 8 pm Thursday night, New York radio legends DJ Clue and Funkmaster Flex both announced their intentions to play the new track, leading to a bit of a radio scuffle between the two extremely influential radio hosts. Nevertheless, we now have our first look at “Mercy”, a collaboration between the boss Kanye himself, Clipse‘s Pusha T, D-Town’s Big Sean, and 2 Chainz.

Interestingly enough, the song is being billed on iTunes as a Kanye song with features from the rest of G.O.O.D. Music. Upon listening though, “Mercy” sounds nothing like a pure Kanye song and is definitely a collaborative work. Lyrically, there isn’t much content here aside from the hearty dose of braggadocio from each rapper, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing when its delivered from rappers as technically talented as these guys are. You can grab it below and be sure to purchase the single on iTunes now.

Listen: jj – “Beautiful Life”

jj make their triumphant return with the release of “Beautiful Life”, yet another beautifully composed song from the Swedish duo. And the first line? It goes something like this: “I’m so in this b*tch, see me glow in this b*tch, blowing dro in this b*tch, doing blow in this b*tch.” Classic.

This new song will appear on their forthcoming single jj n° 4 alongside another new song entitled “Burn”. Starting May 8th, you’ll be able to purchase the single from Secretly Canadian and Sincerely Yours either as a 7″ record or as a digital recording. Check it out below.

Listen: Kanye West & DJ Khaled – “Theraflu”

Bam! Just about two hours ago, Funkmaster Flex premiered Kanye West‘s new song “Theraflu” on Hot 97. A collaboration with DJ Khaled, “Theraflu” has a bouncy vibe (produced by Hit Boy) that is extremely similar to Watch The Throne standout “N***as in Paris”. Bringing back his old school flow, Yeezy drops bars mentioning Amber Rose, Kim Kardashian (“And I’ll admit, I fell in love with Kim/ ‘Round the same time she fell in love with him”), and Kris Humphries (“Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him off the team”). You can check out the song below.

Download: BADBADNOTGOOD – BBNG2

“No one above the age of 21 was involved in the making of this album. This album was recorded in one 10 hour session. Thanks to our friends, family, loved ones and anyone who fucks with us.”

Avant-garde jazz trio BADBADNOTGOOD make their return today with the release of BBNG2, an eleven-song record composed of hip hop covers as well as original songs. This time around, the ridiculously talented Toronto group tackles the music of James Blake, Kanye West, and even Odd Future, but also contribute five new songs of original material that are even more appealing than their covers.

If you aren’t yet familiar with BADBADNOTGOOD, you can preview the entire album below through their Bandcamp. Once you’re satisfied, you can head over to their website for a free download of the album in multiple file formats.
