Yellowcard bassist Sean O’Donnell has announced his decision to leave the band to focus on his family. You can read his rather long and detailed statement on his departure here:
“In April of 2010, the 5 of us met up in Los Angeles to play some music, hang out, and talk about the future of the band. I felt privileged to be invited to get to do so, and it was an amazing couple of days. Fast forward a year and a half and we’ve put out two full lengths, shot 6 music videos, and traveled to almost 30 countries. It’s been an exhilarating time for all of us in the band and some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my music career. Which is why I’m sad today to let you all know that I am leaving Yellowcard.
This is not one of those ugly messy band member departures that seem to plague rock music. This is a personal decision, and it’s mine. Simple as I can put it, playing in a band that is on a full time touring schedule demands a balancing act of work and family that I can no longer pull off and still remain happy. As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision to make, but usually the really important ones never are.
While I feel confident in my decision, I know I’m walking away from a lot. I feel truly blessed to have been invited to such a close knit family, one that I was welcomed into completely. I’ll miss the guys, I’ll miss the shows, I’ll miss making all those ridiculous YC sessions videos. I’ll miss all of the love I got from the thousands of fans all over the world. When my former band Reeve Oliver was on tour with Yellowcard in 2005, I said onstage that all I could ever hope for was for us to attract fans who were as supportive as Yellowcard fans. I meant it then, but now I realize the full impact of the love and support you guys give. It’s immense, it’s real, and it’s completely necessary for this band to survive and to thrive.
Yellowcard has made great rock records before me, and will no doubt continue to do so without me. I will now continue on in the role that I have held for the last 13 years, that of a devoted fan.
Thanks for your time, and thanks for reading this,
Pierce the Veil have announced that they will be heading into the studio this month to record their third full-length. The album will be follow-up to their sophomore effort Selfish Machines, and the first album by the band to be released on Fearless Records. You can read the statement by frontman Vic Fuentes below:
“Hola mis amigos! We hit the studio THIS MONTH to record a brand new album! Can you smell the excitement in the air?! We’ve been writing on and off for almost a whole year now, in between tours and even while on tour. We’ve traveled to different parts of the country to collaborate with friends and fellow musicians. We wrote while we were on tour in Europe. We even lived in a cabin for a few months to get away from it all and fine tune the songs. And now it begins! We’ll be announcing the producer and a bunch of other upcoming PTV plans very soon! Exciting times on the PTV front!

Over the last few days, three-piece rock/power pop outfit Anarbor have announced the replacement of their guitarist Adam Juwig with Dave Melillo, formerly of the band Cute Is What We Aim For. You can read Melillo’s statement below:
“So, one night I was watching the Mission Impossible Quadrilogy and enjoying a night cap when Mike from Anarbor hit me up asking if I’d be interested in playing guitar for them. My immediate response was a resounding: “hell yes sir”. My history with the band goes back to the days before Slade picked up bass duties for the band. We were introduced to each other by a mutual homie and I always admired the music created by these dudes. I happily volunteered to make an appearance during Anarbor’s set on the Take Action Tour back in 09 and I’m super mega extra stoked to be able to join them on stage again over the next couple months. Looking forward to seeing y’all at the rock concerts, <3dave”
Juwig stated that his departure was due to his desire to pursue his education and that there are no negative emotions between him or the band. You can read his statement on his departure below:
“So, some of you might have been wondering if I had fallen off the face of the world or not. About two months ago, I made the decision to leave Anarbor and go back to school full time and live a normal life. It was a very hard decision to make and wasn’t a spontaneous decision. The whole time we had been touring, I had always had a yearning to go back to school and get my degree. After the “Do America” Tour, we had the longest break at home that we’ve had since we first began touring. Over the past few months, I was reminded of how much I loved being home and living a normal life. Being away from home for 8 to 10 months out of the year is just something that doesn’t interest me anymore.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved touring and playing shows everyday with my best friends, just being gone so much and not having stability can get a little irritating. The memories I’ve made over the past 9 years of being in Anarbor will be things I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. There’s no bad blood between me or any of the guys. I still hang out with the guys all the time, and our friendship is the most important thing. I still play guitar and write songs of my own, maybe they’ll get recorded one day. Make sure to go check out the guys on the upcoming “end of the world” tour, the guys are gonna kill it! I’d like to thank everyone at Hopeless Records, Justin and everyone at The Agency Group, David McKay, Mike Green, Danny Rukasin, Brandon Goodman and everyone else at The Working Group Management. A HUGE thank you goes out to all the fans out there, you guys are the reason why the band can continue to stay on the road and making records. I’ll never forget anything about this journey, thank you all!”
Anarbor recently had their song “Useless” from their full-length The Words You Don’t Swallow featured on the Love Is Hopeless compilation by Hopeless Records.
In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux and RTX (now Black Bananas) fame teased some new details about the long-delayed Avalanches release. Not only did Herrema team up with the Australian band to write lyrics for a new song titled “The Stepkids”, but Herrema also told Pitchfork, “They said the album is definitely going to come out this year. And I heard Danny Brown is going to guest on the record, too.” Wow. If the new record does indeed come out this year, it will be the group’s first studio album since 2000’s critically-acclaimed Since I Left You. Not much else is known, but current working titles for the album include On A Saturday and Friday Night Fever.
Herrema’s new album as Black Bananas, Rad Times Xpress IV, is out tomorrow.
The Flaming Lips and Erykah Badu have worked together to create the song, “Now I Understand”. The band’s description of the song in Soundcloud is “Sound construction piece featuring Lips, Erykah Badu, Siri, and Biz Markie backwards. It’s called “Now I Understand” It’s funny and will be available on SoundCloud for one week only!!! Life is beautiful. Music gets you high.” The song also features sampled vocals from Apple’s Siri. This collaboration is a part of a huge compilation album that the Flaming Lips plan to release on Record Store Day. The Flaming Lips plan to collaborate with Nick Cave, Neon Indian, Yoko Ono and Bon Iver. Frontman, Wayne Coyne, also hopes to work with Lykke Liand Ke$ha.

Jack White, former front-man of The White Stripes, always seems to be working on a music project. He has just announced a new solo LP that will be released April 24. The album is titled Blunderbluss. Listen to the first single, “Love Interruption”, below. You can also purchase the single here at 9 PM PST later today.
Below is extra information and what Jack White had to say about the album from a press release:
Produced by White and recorded at his own Third Man Studio in Nashville, Blunderbuss has been described by White as “an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”
According to a recent print edition of NME, electronic duo Crystal Castles will be recording their new album in Warsaw and plan to release it sometime this summer. The new album will be a followup to their great sophomore release, Crystal Castles (II), and like all their other albums, it will be self-produced by Ethan Kath.
Regarding the bands sound, Kath states: “every song we write feels bleak to me. I don’t get it when people think it’s beautiful. I think it [bleakness] is the only emotion we do. We don’t want to do anything else.”
Controversial songstress Lana Del Rey‘s new album Born to Die hasn’t even hit stores yet and she’s already looking forward a new-ish release. In an interview with BBC, Lana states that she purchased the rights to her 2010 debut album, Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey, with plans to re-release the record “maybe in late summer.”
That album, released under the singer’s real name, appeared online for about two months in 2010 before being pulled off. As Lana Del Rey has gained popularity and hype recently, many have begun to question the backstory behind this mysterious first record. She explained to BBC, “I had signed to an independent label but they couldn’t fund the release of it. People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album.’ But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no-one’s heard them. We were all proud of it. It’s pretty good.”
This goes against David Kahn’s, the album’s producer, earlier claims that the album was pulled in order to “to stifle future opportunities to distribute it,” end traces of her career as Lizzy Grant, and reinvent herself as Lana Del Rey, according to Billboard.
We’ll never really know what Lana’s team intended to do, but for now at least, we now they aren’t hiding anything by rerelasing the lost record back to retailers. Lizzy Grant’s first record as Lana Del Rey will be released on January 31 via Interscope Records.
