Listen: Camper Van Beethoven – “Someday Our Love Will Sell Us Out”

La Costa Perdida Album Cover
Camper Van Beethoven, have released a new track off of their upcoming release called La Costa Perdida. The track is titled Someday Our Love Will Sell Us Out and is available to listen below or on Soundcloud. This track sounds different from their regular indie rock style as it has a psychedelic aesthetic. However the fusion of the electric guitar strumming sound and vocals is an unusually perfect blend, and makes me excited for their upcoming release. La Costa Perdida, Camper Van Beethoven’s tenth album will be released on January 22nd.

Listen: Wil Wagner – “Laika”

Wil Wagner
Pre-orders for Wil Wagner’s upcoming solo release Laika are now available from Poison City Records. Two out of the eight new tracks are available to listen on Poison City’s bandcamp page, including How They Made Us and the much anticipated Laika. The album was recorded in Tasmania in December of last year with producer and fellow Poison City artist Lincoln LeFevre.

After being blown away by Wagner’s lyrics and sound on The Smith Street Band’s latest album Sunshine & Technology, I am excited to hear this collection of new acoustic solo songs. You can order the 12″ vinyl and CD from the Poison City Records Store and listen to two of the tracks below.

Listen: Bring Me The Horizon – “Shadow Moses”

Bring Me The Horizon
UK-based metal band, Bring Me The Horizon, has just released the official audio stream of “Shadow Moses”, which you can check out here or below. This is the first single off the band’s fourth, upcoming studio album, Sempiternal, set to be released April of this year.

The song definitely draws from the band’s previous works; the best elements of which are prevalent throughout the track. The choir, orchestral element that riddled There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret returns. Heavy guitar riffs akin to Suicide Season are also featured. Perhaps the most interesting element is the melodious vocalization that singer Oli Sykes incorporates for the first time, rather successfully in fact. One can definitely feel the band’s maturation and the development of their musical style.

Listen: The Arab Springs – “Radost Moya”

The Arab Springs, Ross Devlin’s ambient experimental pop project recently unveiled their debut album Radost Moya. Devlin known for his work under the Wolf Fluorescence moniker, crafts drone-filled numbers with the vocal stylings of Ellery Roberts formerly from the now deceased WU LYF. Similarly Devlin uses his voice as an instrument to compliment the tracks’ layers swapping between airy and impassioned vocals. Combining drum loops, a variety of synthesiser melodies, and surreal lyrics Radost Moya floats seamlessly from track to track in a dreamlike sonic journey.

In Devlin’s own words about the release, “I recorded everything myself – some digital and some analog – mostly over this past summer. I was inspired to not really care if there’s a little bit of ugliness in my music which is always something that I’ve been conscious of. If you read any of the lyrics, the songs are mostly pretty gloomy, but there’s hope in them, and that’s where the name The Arab Springs came from.” You can download the album on a ‘Name Your Price’ basis from The Arab Springs’ Bandcamp and stream it above. Listen: Pairs – “If this cockroach doesn’t die, I will.”

Pairs, a Shanghai two piece post-punk band, at the start of last month released a 17 track double vinyl titled If this cockroach doesn’t die, I will. Recorded at the start of July in a bomb shelter in Shanghai, China with The Horses, it was then released by Metal Postcard on vinyl, a Hong Kong based label.

This Australian and Chinese duo create garage sounding post punk, with an element of hardcore in it. Vocalist and drummer Xiao Zhong yells out his simple yet inspiring lyrics, accompanied by guitarist F’s constant distortion filled strumming which keeps each track moving along. Lyrically, I was surprised to hear references to The Smith Street Band, which made me like Pairs even more. You can pick up their new album on their Bandcamp page along with many other previous releases.

Listen: Lord Huron – “Ends Of The Earth”

Lord Huron is a folk/rock band from Michigan. Their songs are filled with smooth dreamy vocals and sweet acoustic melodies. While their albums are full of emotionally deep and soothing tunes, these guys can get incredibly loud and intense live. When I saw them at Lollapalooza in 2011, I stood front row and watched their nice folk sound transform into a rock concert with such natural flow. The music is crafted beautifully with such attention to various kinds of instruments.

On October 9th, Lord Huron released their first LP, Lonesome Dreams. The first two tracks to their new release can be streamed below. Also, check out their Fall U.S tour dates.

Watch: Kent State – “Behind Closed Doors”

Psychedelic-pop band Kent State recently released their latest EP Behind Closed Doors through Rok Lok Records, which is currently available for free on their Bandcamp page. I interviewed Nicholas Vance of Kent State earlier in the year which can be found here.

Behind Closed Doors creates a great medium between lo-fi and punk. It has the real “head-nod” quality of punk with a great range in the guitar but the catchy vocals that are softly drowning in reverb. The EP sounds a lot cleaner and tightened up.

On Oct. 10 they released the official video for their EP’s title track. Kent State paired up with some of their friends at Pumpkin Morgue Paranormal Investigators to make the video. All of the side clips in the music video are from Pumpkin Morgue Paranormals ghost hunting mockumentary tv show. Check out the video below.

Watch: A Year With Armin van Buuren

Armin van Buuren, the number one DJ for a consecutive 4 years from 2007 – 2011, gives his fans a 1 hour documentary about his life right now as a superstar producer/DJ. The documentary humanizes Armin van Buuren, even though we think of him as a huge idol. It shows his personal life with his wife and daughter, while juggling the dates and months that he will be on tour for his massive fanbase. This could easily be one of my favorite documentaries about a DJ right now as it captures the personality of a great DJ. Another great documentary to watch is Take One, which is a documentary about the Swedish House Mafia.
