Watch: What Model Citizens – “Coming For Me”

What Model Citizens
Electroclash outfit, What Model Citizens have released a new video for their latest single, Coming For Me. The project consists of songwriter Alex Musto, and was created towards the end of 2009 as a means of exploring noise and feedback-heavy music grounded by a foundation in synth-rock. The video itself is quite odd and induces a sense of paranoia, but it’s definitely worth a watch and was shot at Bizarre Bar, Silent Barn, and various neighbourhoods around Brooklyn, NY. Coming For Me is the latest single in advance of a full-length album coming out later this fall. You can pick up his latest track along with the rest of his discography on What Model CitizensBandcamp page.

Listen: Kodacrome – “Strike The Gold”

Kodacrome

Kodacrome is an electronic duo comprised of Elissa (vocals/synth) and Ryan (synth/electronics). The pair crafts fragmented pop with a warm electronic pulse, that features swells and lead lines which ring from synths and throats, alike. They harbor deep love for melodic composition, as well as the gorgeous dynamics of analog electronics. Kodacrome self released their debut EP Perla, in March 2012, which is available to stream below. The duo have now released the first single off of their upcoming album. You can download their new track titled Strike The Gold here. For more information check out their Facebook page and website.

Watch: Pixies – “Bagboy”

Bagboy
Pixies, the Boston-based pioneers of alternate rock, have suprisingly released a new track accompanied by a music video titled Bagboy. This is the first original track released since 2004, after their decade long hiatus. Touring on and off since their reformation, it’s nice to see that the band is continuing to record and produce new music. Despite the departure of co-vocalist and bassist, Kim Deal, the track has female vocals in it, and has the same vibes as many of the earlier Pixies classics lyrically and instrumentally. You can download the song for free below, and watch the music video.

Frontman of Pixies, Black Francis stated about the new song, “The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body.’ Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square…I thought that was kind of interesting. The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued. So a lot of the musical idea had been kicking around for awhile. It’s pretty simple, kind of a blues-based, two-note kind of thing, really.”

Listen: Gogol Bordello – “Lost Innocent World”

Gypsy Punk band, Gogol Bordello, is set to release their sixth album Pura Vida Conspiracy on July 23rd. Gogol Bordello is not your everyday band. Rising from the New York underground scene, frontman Eugene Hutz hoped to mix his Gypsy heritage with an energetic punk style. Gogol Bordello has a very wide range, they can bring an electrifying stage presence or turn the volume down a bit and play a sweet acoustic set. Whether you feel like moshing in a giant pit of sweaty bodies or just head bobbing in the back, you’re bound to have a good time. I’ve found that the album work doesn’t always convey the intensity that they can bring to a live concert but the message the band hopes to convey through their work is always refreshing.   If you even slightly dig their recently released single “Lost Innocent World” it’s worth the effort to see them live.  Their summer tour dates are available through their website. You can also stream “Lost Innocent World” and “Maladrino”  below. Even if you don’t enjoy the music, you have to respect a man with a wonderful mustache.

Listen: Coma Cinema – “Posthumous Release”

Posthumous Release

Coma Cinema‘s new album Posthumous Release was officially unveiled today despite a prior intentional leak. The album has been in the works for three years encountering various problems such as sickness, heartbreak and broken instruments. After recieving a message from Brad Petering of TV Girl inviting frontman Mat Cothran to go to LA, it was then recorded within nine days. Brad Petering and Jason Wyman produced the album and it was mastered by Warren Hildebrand from Foxes in Fiction. Rachel Levy of RL Kelly also contributed her wistful airy vocals to the album.

From Mat Cothran’s tumblr about the release, “I spent a lot of time in los angeles walking around by myself thinking about how my life had come to this. I was born in a shitty town, and I was born poor, from trailer park to project to parking lot to apartment. Somehow i was in Los Angeles making a record, it didn’t make sense I didn’t know if I deserved it. As it is don’t give up on your fucking dreams, I’ve done so much in my life but you’re capable of even more. Never listen when they tell you you can’t. It simply isn’t true. I hope everyone likes the record, the response thus far has been amazing and I’m so thankful to have all you folks along for the ride. I’m not sure what happens now to me or this project, I might take a bit of a hiatus from the world. But I’ll be around, and I’ll be back to see you. I love you, thanks for taking care of me.”

The album as expected features many standout tracks such as White Trash VHS, Bailey JaySurvivor’s Guilt and Posthumous ReleaseThe song, Posthumous Release was adapted from hmm…I Was Born written by Justin Blackburn and Noel Thrasher. Being Cothran’s fourth album under this moniker, a maturation of his sound organically has occurred both lyrically and instrumentally. In comparison to his other releases, the album is a much more hi-fi ordeal, sonically allowing all the melodies and his soft vocals to be heard precisely. Even breaths can be heard being taken on a personal favorite track from the album, Partners in Crime. This in turn removes the beloved constant tape hiss signature to much of his work, but allows the synths and guitars to shine through. Pick up the record digitally from the Bandcamp page for free or for a donation. For a casette version of the album you can purchase it over at Orchid Tapes, and as a vinyl from Fork & Spoon Records. Stream the album in its entirety below.

Watch: mewithoutYou – “All Circles”

mewithoutYou

mewithoutYou have released a music video for their song All Circles off of their most recent album Ten Stories. The video uses stop motion clay figurines to portray a science fiction sonic journey. The track also features Hayley Williams of Paramore accompanying Aaron Weiss’ vocals. You can download an HD copy of the video by donating to the now independent band here through Paypal.

The director of the video, Michael P. Heneghan stated, “The egg breaks, the atom shakes, the earth quakes, the DNA snakes, the man takes. Life and love, sex and death, the first murder and then the train goes off the tracks. This universe will be the undoing of itself. Look for clues – do not trust the blue mouth man, he is not what he seems. Elephant knows the way. Our hearts must be broken for our souls to escape. Where will it end? Where did it begin? All circles presuppose…” Watch the video below, and if you haven’t listened to the album yet pick it up digitally or on vinyl.
