Hot off her recent SNL performance (which, Mr. Brian Williams calls “one of the worst outings in SNL history”), New York singer songwriter Lana Del Rey has released a remix to her song “Born to Die” by up and coming producer Clams Casino, who has built a name for himself by working with other rising hip hop artists like A$AP Rocky and the always based Lil B. The remix will be part of a remix EP that will also features work from Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn.

Lana Del Rey’s debut album, which is also titled Born to Die, is set to be released January 30th in the UK and January 31st in the US.

Gorillaz Break Up

Looks like another breakup is on the horizon. Just days after LCD Soundsystem and The White Stripes announced their breakups, Gorillaz will reportedly also throw in the towel. The People has reported that Gorillaz will split due to arguments between Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. One “massive argument” after the band’s world tour “basically ended things.” Furthermore, “things haven’t been great for a while” between Albarn and Hewlett.

We’ll keep you updated on new information about the breakup. At present, The People, one of the UK’s biggest Sunday newspapers, is the only source of this report.

UPDATE: According to Jamie’s son, Denholm, the Gorillaz are not breaking up, but are “taking time apart from each other to work on other projects.”

New Member of the Gorillaz

A new member has been added to the Gorillaz, based on a fan-submitted design from the character competition contest. The new character is called “The Evangelist” and has been redrawn by Gorillaz co-creator/animator Jamie Hewlett.

According to the Gorillaz website, “‘The Evangelist’ is the opposite of ‘The Boogieman;’ the light to his awful shade…’The Evangelist’ is a similar entity, but the flip-side of ‘The Boogieman.’ He/she may even be revealed as ‘The Boogieman’s’ avenger. His/her outer appearance is yet to be defined.”

In a new interview with NME, Damon Albarn talked about a new Gorillaz album and label pressure to release Plastic Beach before it was ready. “I’ve been recording a new record on the road, which I’m going to try and put out before Christmas. It’s a studio album made in hotel rooms across America,” he told the interviewer. According to Albarn, the album will sound like “an English voice that has been put through the vocoder of America” and was recorded using his Apple iPad.
