Video: Chiddy Bang – “By Your Side”

Chiddy Bang‘s debut album Breakfast is set for release at the end of this month, and so far, we’ve already heard the poppy lead single “Ray Charles” and a brief snippet from the album’s trailer. As a thank you for all the support they’ve been receiving thus far, Chiddy and Xaph decided to release a video for a brand new song that actually won’t make the album. “By Your Side” features reflective rhymes from Chiddy, all anchored by a soulful, melancholic beat from the extremely talented Xaphoon. If this didn’t make the album, I can’t even begin to imagine what Breakfast will end up sounding like. One thing’s for sure, it’s definitely time for breakfast.

Video: Jay-Z & Kanye West – “N*ggas In Paris”

Well, I guess this right here was inevitable. Kanye West and Jay-Z‘s Watch The Throne megahit “N*ggas In Paris” now has a seizure-inducing music video, composed mostly of live footage from Kanye and Hov’s recent US tour. Flashing lights, mirror image effects, Kanye and Jay dancing… it’s all there.

Thoughts?

If you aren’t feeling creative, feel free to copy and paste one of the following suggested comments:

  • That shit cray!
  • Ball so hard…
  • I don’t even know what that means.
  • blah blah blah something about the Illuminati
  • If you just so happen to be named Aubrey Drake Graham, you can use this one: “I’m just feeling like the throne is for the taking… watch me take it!”

Listen: Main Attrakionz – “Focalin”

Big day for Oakland rap duo Main Attrakionz! Just after releasing the dates for their first ever US tour, MondreM.A.N. and Squadda B posted up a new song produced by Tyler Bisson, the twinkling, hypnotic “Focalin”. It’s quite similar in style to 2011’s free full-length 808’s and Dark Grapes II, one of the best mixtapes released last year (even including a lone feature from Harlem’s ASAP Rocky). You can check out “Focalin” and the group’s tour dates below. Over the next two months, the California natives will make their way across the country into New England and into the South before wrapping everything up at this year’s SXSW.

Watch: Bon Iver Live On Saturday Night Live

This past Friday night, Justin Vernon and his fellow Bon Iver bandmates made an appearance on Saturday Night Live to perform two tracks from their fantastic 2011 record Bon Iver, Bon Iver, one of our favorite records of last year. As expected, the band launched directly into the ethereal, Grammy-nominated “Holocene”, but then surprised the audience when they began playing the opening notes to the highly-divisive, cheese-filled “Beth/Rest”. Personally, my favorite version of the song is still the solo piano version Justin did for NPR World Cafe, which you can listen to right here. Be sure to check out the videos from SNL below.

Download: Curren$y – Here EP

So apparently, Curren$y woke up yesterday morning and instead of getting ready for the Super Bowl like much of the world, decided to record and release a new five track EP for free. Spitta’s always been known for his diehard work ethic, but this seems to be an entirely new level for the woozy-flowed rapper: recording, preparing, and releasing an entire project in just a few hours. After numerous releases in 2011, Here is Curren$y’s first project of the year and hopefully the first of many. You can download the entire thing for free here.

Jennifer Herrema Says Avalanches Record Out This Year With Danny Brown

In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux and  RTX (now Black Bananas) fame teased some new details about the long-delayed Avalanches release. Not only did Herrema team up with the Australian band to write lyrics for a new song titled “The Stepkids”, but Herrema also told Pitchfork, “They said the album is definitely going to come out this year. And I heard Danny Brown is going to guest on the record, too.” Wow. If the new record does indeed come out this year, it will be the group’s first studio album since 2000’s critically-acclaimed Since I Left You. Not much else is known, but current working titles for the album include On A Saturday and Friday Night Fever.

Herrema’s new album as Black Bananas, Rad Times Xpress IV, is out tomorrow.

Lana Del Rey to Re-Release ‘Lizzy Grant’ Album

Controversial songstress Lana Del Rey‘s new album Born to Die hasn’t even hit stores yet and she’s already looking forward a new-ish release. In an interview with BBC, Lana states that she purchased the rights to her 2010 debut album, Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey, with plans to re-release the record “maybe in late summer.”

That album, released under the singer’s real name, appeared online for about two months in 2010 before being pulled off. As Lana Del Rey has gained popularity and hype recently, many have begun to question the backstory behind this mysterious first record. She explained to BBC, “I had signed to an independent label but they couldn’t fund the release of it. People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album.’ But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no-one’s heard them. We were all proud of it. It’s pretty good.”

This goes against David Kahn’s, the album’s producer, earlier claims that the album was pulled in order to “to stifle future opportunities to distribute it,” end traces of her career as Lizzy Grant, and reinvent herself as Lana Del Rey, according to Billboard.

We’ll never really know what Lana’s team intended to do, but for now at least, we now they aren’t hiding anything by rerelasing the lost record back to retailers. Lizzy Grant’s first record as Lana Del Rey will be released on January 31 via Interscope Records.

Watch: Evidence – “Falling Down”

Evidence‘s Cats & Dogs was perhaps one of the most criminally underlooked records of 2011, alongside personal favorite Phonte‘s Charity Starts At Home. I guess I’m not incredibly surprised as the steadfast Rhymesayer’s rapper is usually fairly reserved in terms of getting his music out there to his loyal and extremely tightly-knit fanbase. The hip-hop purist/producer/MC recently unleashed a new set of respectfully dark, brooding visuals for “Falling Down” directed by Todd Angkasuwan. You can check it out below.

Listen: Andrew Bird – “Eyeoneye”

“Eyeoneye” is our very first look at the extremely talented whistler/singer-songwriter Andrew Bird‘s upcoming new album, Break It Yourself. Although the album won’t make its official release until March 6, the new song will be available for immediate download with a pre-order of the limited edition box set of the album from his website here. In terms of style, “Eyeoneye” has a sound that reminds me of “Masterfade” or “Fake Palindromes” from The Mysterious Production of Eggs so perhaps Bird is taking a pre-Noble Beast type direction to the album. Either way, I’m incredibly excited.

Break It Yourself Tracklisting:
01. Desperation Breeds…
02. Polynation
03. Danse Caribe
04. Give it Away
05. Eyeoneye
06. Lazy Projector
07. Near Death Experience Experience
08. Behind the Barn
09. Lusitania
10. Orpheo Looks Back
