Listen: Dreamers Dose – “Pray for Me, Fragile”

Dreamers Dose

Indie psychedelic rock band Dreamers Dose are about to release their debut full-length album, At Least We’re Happy this summer. Dreamers Dose formed in 2009 when Andrew Stogel (vocals), Jesse Perlman (guitar), Levi Dylan (bass) and Josh Conway (drums) began performing together in high school. The band are heavily influenced by artists such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Radiohead,  and Queens of the Stone Age. To promote the new album they teamed up with Alarm Magazine to premiere a song from the release titled, Pray for Me, Fragile. You can listen to the stream of the song here.

In Andrew Stogel’s words about the new track, “I was walking through the streets of suburbia when the melody and lyrics for Pray for Me, Fragile came together in my head. After working it out for a while, I brought it to my bandmates and we’ve played it ever since.” For more information about the band check out their Facebook, Twitter, and website.

Listen: Listener – “Eyes To The Ground For Change”

url-1
Talk Music band Listener is set to release their third LP, Time Is A Machine on June 18th. Listener is the work of Dan Smith, Christin Nelson, and Kris Rochelle. I’m really excited for this record; Wooden Heart, their previous record was just such a unique experience, filled with wonderful words and a instrumentally thin but well done piece. If you’ve never really checked out spoken word, Listener is a great introduction. They often sit in between a spoken word band with a post hardcore vibe. You can check out an interview with them here. Eyes To The Ground a track from their new record is currently available for free download through their website, along with an album presale and tour dates. I think it makes a perfect intro to the band. The guitar just feels so smooth throughout the entirety of the song, and Dan always has something interesting to say. You can also stream the track below.

“Pick Up The Pieces is a song written about the domestic violence in our communities, in our neighborhood, in our homes,” says Nik Hill in Artist Direct’s press release.  “It is an isolating experience and the lyrics are meant to empower and shine a light on this issue, to prove that we cannot be broken by these things, by our pasts and more importantly to say something now, help each other get out of these violent surroundings. Turning victims into heroes, and giving voices to those too afraid to speak up.”

Listen: The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die – “Whenever, If Ever”

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die
The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die set the initial date of June 18th for their debut full length album Whenever, If Ever to be released on vinyl, CD and digitally. However due to a leak, it was released a month earlier than expected. You can pick up the album in various packages from the Topshelf Records website, and get it digitally on their Bandcamp page. The band “speak to a universal experience: of home, of suburbia, of community, of nostalgia for a time not so long ago after all. Atmospheric and breathy, emotionally raw and heavy, The World Is’ reputation as one of today’s seminal “second-waver“ emo bands precedes them.” If you’re a fan of the third wave emo bands such as Brave Bird and Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) I would not recommend on missing out on this album with its intricate twinkly melodies and heart-wrenching lyrics and vocals. Stream the Whenever, If Ever in its entirety below.

Track: The Story So Far – “Clairvoyant”

Acoustic The Story So Far

Track: “Clairvoyant”
Artist: The Story So Far
Release Date: May 13th 2013
Label: Pure Noise Records

Clairvoyant is the first song by Californian pop-punk band The Story So Far has released off of their upcoming split 7″ with hardcore band, Stick To Your Guns, which you can currently stream here. The song is a soft acoustic number, differing greatly from the band’s usual brand of fast, hardcore-influenced pop-punk. Lead vocalist, Parker Cannon, sings over a poignant guitar that consistently drives the track. Cannon is typically known for his powerfully raw singing style, which some describe as “angst-y yelling”. Having said this, vocalization on the song will likely come as a surprise to many fans who are accustomed to the band’s heavy vocals. Clairvoyant features a vocal melody akin to the likes of softer acts such as Into It. Over It. and Koji.

Despite the heavy amount of versatility that the song demonstrates, Clairvoyant comprises of a couple of familiar elements of The Story So Far’s music. The lyrics of the song feature certain rhythmic and rhyming qualities consistent in many of the band’s tracks. Lines like “I think you’ll notice when things become different the good vibes in our lives won’t feel so consistent” and “You might hate my words but you know that I’m right, you know that I’m right” seem to fit perfectly in any The Story So Far song. The track almost feels like it could be an acoustic version of their usual, heavier material. Overall, Clairvoyant is a very satisfying change of pace, which also serves to demonstrate the multifaceted talent of The Story So FarThe 7″ split with Stick To Your Guns will be released on June 18th, 2013. You can pre-order the vinyl LP from Pure Noise Records here!
