Listen: A$AP Rocky – “Celebration”

Everything seems to be going perfectly for A$AP Rocky, who in recent months has signed a huge record deal and released his first debut record, LiveLoveA$AP. He has just released “Celebration”, which is a solo version of his collaboration with Chicago MC Jon James. This song is a lot different from Rocky’s chill, dreamy Clams Casinoproduced tracks and features the A$AP rhymer rapping over upbeat synths celebrating his recent success. Apparently this track might be a single for one of his upcoming projects. Listen to the song below. You can also download it here. Also, look out for the A$AP Mob album that’s planned to be released in February.

ASAP Rocky and AraabMuzik to Team Up on A$VPMUZIK

It wasn’t a secret that Harlem’s ASAP Rocky was working with the extremely talented AraabMuzik, but thank to Twitter, we now know that the MC-producer pair are pairing up for an entire project titled A$VPMUZIK. After spending the weekend together in the studio, AraabMuzik took to his Twitter account and announced, “Session wit my nigga @asvpxrocky waz crazy! A$VPMUZIK Comin soon! #TrillShit.” AraabMuzik’s beats, as you may know, are highly favored by Dipset and should fit Rocky’s unique, hazy-sounding flow.

You are now listening to A$VPMUZIK.

Listen: ASAP Rocky – “Pretty Flacko”

ASAP Rocky and the rest of the A$AP Mob aren’t taking any days off this holiday season preparing for the forthcoming release of the yet-to-be-titled A$AP Mob album in February. To kick off the new year, Rocky and producer SpaceGhostPurrp team up to bring us the trillwaves on “Pretty Flacko”.

And talk about New Years resolutions… Rocky also posted on his Tumblr that in ten years time, ASAP will be on a yacht and will still be on top. Long live A$AP.

Clams Casino and the “Just For Now” Sample

It’s rarely the case that a hip-hop producer can single-handedly carry an emcee through a track. But such is the case with New Jersey’s Mike Volpe, better known by his stage name Clams Casino, who first turned heads after his collaborations with Soulja Boy and Lil B began making rounds on the Internet. With a keen sense for smooth vocal samples, Clams Casino creates dreamy, ethereal soundscapes that swallow you up and carry you away before the first crash or hi-hat even drops. And the best part of it all? His music works with or without an emcee over top.

That’s something you can’t find with new-age (pardon the pretentiousness) producers. Sure, T-Minus creates synth-laden beats with a similar loftiness, but the soundscape doesn’t even come close. Face it – a track like “She Will” needs Drake and Lil Wayne to fully function.

What may be more impressive is how all of his fantastic beats come together. “I’m God”, perhaps the defining song so far in both Clams Casino’s and Lil B’s careers, takes it roots in Imogen Heap‘s breathtaking “Just For Now”, a song that sounds nothing like “I’m God”.

That same song, “Just For Now”, was even been sampled by Clams Casino more than once. ASAP Rocky‘s “Bass”, believe it or not, comes from the very same sample. Originally intended for Lil B, Clams Casino actually reworked the beat after the Based God decided that one part of the song was a bit too fast for him, ultimately resulting in yet another song from the same sample entitled “I’m The Devil”. That part was thus taken out, slowed down, and given to Rocky.

Simply put on your headphones and slip away into the music…

ASAP Rocky – “Peso (Star Slinger Refix)”

Producer Star Slinger just gave Harlem upstart ASAP Rocky‘s web hit “Peso” a complete reworking, releasing the song on his Soundcloud page. The vocals are sped up for the majority of the track and ASAP Ty Beats‘s original production is pretty much completely “refixed,” with a much harder-hitting set of drums. Personally, I’m still a bigger fan of the original track and its more laid-back vibe, but Star Slinger’s version is so different in style and energy that it’s worth giving it a listen or two. Listen: Washed Out – “Amor Fati (Clams Casino Remix)”

New Jersey based (no pun intended) producer Clams Casino was recently tapped by chillwaver Washed Out to remix their newly released single “Amor Fati”, which was just put out yesterday by Weird World. Those that order the 12″ single package are treated with three exclusive tracks, including this remix. In his reworking of the euphorically upbeat track from Washed Out’s 2011 release Within and Without, Clams gives it a more laid-back vibe, fine-tuning the summery track to fit the cooling weather. Personally, I’m a big fan of the original track, but without a doubt, Clams does the song justice. That should come as no surprise though, as the producer’s resume includes standout beat work for the likes of Lil BMac Miller, and most recently on A$AP Rocky‘s new mixtape. Check it out below, courtesy of Time Out London.

Stream Childish Gambino’s ‘Camp’

If you aren’t currently hooked on the Take Care leak or ASAP Rocky‘s new mixtape, there’s still plenty of new rap music to keep you busy. After premiering a new track, “Heartbeat”, on radio station Hot 97 earlier in the day, Gambino decided to team up with NPR and release his entire album for streaming online. Praised for his lyrical wit and his Internet-famous punchlines, Gambino has drawn numerous comparisons to Young Money ringleader Lil Wayne and seems poised to steal away some of the spotlight from DrakeCamp will be out November 15th.
