Watch: Linkin Park + Steve Aoki – “A Light That Never Comes”

Linkin Park/Steve Aoki
Influential band Linkin Park have recently released a single, featuring DJ and EDM legend Steve Aoki, entitled “A Light That Never Comes.” The song mixes rock, rap, and electronic themes to yet again re-innovate the veteran outfit’s sound. While the song existed for some time as an unlockable in Linkin Park’s game LP Recharge, today marks the official release of the song in advent of their upcoming remix album, Recharged, set for release October 29th.

Regarding the state of electronic music, band member Mike Shinoda said, “I think that EDM is at a place where it can either repeat itself, stay kind of stagnant and eventually get boring, or people can do what Steve is doing, what Avicii [in “Wake Me Up”] is doing, what a lot of these other guys are doing and start experimenting and taking chances.”

As of what we might see on Recharged, Shinoda revealed that “A Light That Never Comes” won’t be the only electro-rock hybrid the band is planning on releasing. “The album will have remixes from Datsik, Killsonik, and there’s a remix of the Aoki song by Rick Rubin [one of the most influential record producers] himself. Rick doesn’t usually make a track, he produces stuff for other people, so this is a really special thing. I’m really excited about it.”

Stream: Morgan Doctor – “West Coast”

Morgan Doctor Press

Drummer and multi-instrumentalist, Morgan Doctor released her third studio album titled Minor Over Major earlier this year. The release is her first full instrumental album and despite the absence of lyrics, it is her most revealing.

In her own words about the album, “This album is definitely my most personal album to date. During the creation of it, I spent so much time alone, more than I ever had before in my life.  When I work with vocalists I tend to let them write the lyrics, I wanted this record to be an album between the music and me. The music really reflected that time of me being solo.”

You can stream West Coast, a track off of her new album below and check out her Bandcamp page to listen or purchase her discography. Be sure to follow her on Facebook and visit her website too!

It’s similar to the iTunes visualizer but a lot better. The release was recorded at Tarbox Road Studios, and produced by Dave Fridmann who worked on both of their previous albums. Stream: Rise Against – “Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides and Covers”

Rise Against Album Cover
Veteran band Rise Against have recently released a stream of their upcoming Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides and Covers, which is slated for purchase starting September 10th. The album is exactly what the name suggests: songs from their myriad albums that were classified as secondary in favor of other more popular songs. These under-appreciated tunes, including covers of Bruce Springsteen, Journey, and Nirvana, reflect the aggressive and energetic sound of the Chicago punk rock outfit and are definitely worth a listen for both fan and newcomer alike. You can stream the 26-song album here via Radio.com, and you can purchase a pre-order of the album here.

Watch: The Orwells – “Who Needs You”

The Orwells
In anticipation of Chicago based flower punk outfit, The Orwells‘ second EP release this year titled, Who Needs You you can stream their music video for the title track below. The Orwells consist of cousins Mario Cuomo (vocals) and Dominic Corso (guitar), twins Grant (bass) and Henry Brinner (drums), and Matt O’Keefe (guitar). The EP will be released on September 10th via East End/Canvasback, and on September 9th via East End/National Anthem in the UK. It includes the title track, both a Misfits and a Black Lips cover, and an Audiotree live session of Halloween All Year from their debut release Remember When. The video encompasses the raw, raunchy sound the band produces and some of frontman Mario Cuomo’s eccentric moves, which made their Lollapalooza performance extremely entertaining. (There are 1080p videos of the show up on YouTube if you missed out) I’m personally looking forward to this EP and hopefully a new full-length album after their national tour with FIDLAR. Pre-order Who Needs You on iTunes now and watch the music video directed by Eddie O’ Keefe below!

Watch: Future History – “With Haste”

Future History Press

Indie psychedelic outfit, Future History are preparing to release their sophomore studio album, titled Lungs on September 24th. The band are currently giving away the first single off of the release, With Haste for free on their website. With Haste is also accompanied by a music video featuring an eerie feral child with a red-riding hood vibe in the forest around a desolate cabin where the album was created.

“We spent 10 months in an old, decrepit and haunted cabin in the backwoods of Ontario. Summoning, discovering, creating and capturing, we grew this record ourselves, from seed to tree, through the various stages of emotional collapse and rebirth. Assembling a myriad of old recording equipment acquired over the years and utilizing old furniture discovered in the cabin, we made a genuine attempt to reclaim the space from a multitude of infestations; wasps, man-eating spiders, mice, stink bugs, unseen spirits and Asian lady bugs (you know the ones that bite)…. In the end, despite our best efforts, we all learned to live in harmony…” Be sure to pick up their new single, and check out their Facebook page for more details.

Stream: Mayday Parade – “Ghosts”

Mayday Parade Press

Mayday Parade have recently released the first single, entitled Ghosts, off of their upcoming full-length album Monsters in the Closet, which debuts October 8th via Fearless Records.

Regarding the fresh song, bassist Jeremy Lenzo said: “We are so excited to release our first song ‘Ghosts’ off our newest album Monsters In The Closet. This song has to do with your inner demons, and it portrays that in a literal sense by referring to them as ghosts and how they are always with you. We can’t wait for everyone to hear all the songs on Monsters In The Closet. I think this album has a little bit of everything, and we hope everyone enjoys this album as much as we loved creating it.”

Mayday Parade is set to headline the Glamour Kills Tour in October/November. Pre-orders for the new album are now available at the Fearless Records online store, where one can select between twelve cool bundles or join the weekly raffle. While you’re checking that out, be sure to also stream the song below:
